JOHANNESBURG - The Cabinet approved the Gas Master Plan for public comment before the May elections.
The plan proposes diversfying the energy mix to include gas. Meanwhile, the country faces a “gas cliff” for industrial consumers come 2026.
Sasol says it will prioritise piping gas from Mozambique to Secunda and Sasolburg, to reduce reliance on coal and carbon emissions. Industrial gas users say this is too soon and more time is needed for them to switch to liquefied natural gas.
Jaco Human, executive officer at the Industrial Gas Users Association of Southern Africa had a discussion with eNCA on this.
