COP29 | In conversation with RMB's Tshepo Ntsane

JOHANNESBURG - Climate change is already here.

That is the sentiment expected in Baku in Azerbaijan at the UN COP29 summit on Climate Change that kicked off on Monday.

World leaders from around 200 nations are due to appear over the next two weeks.

A particular focus will be how countries plan to limit long term global temperature rises to 1.5C – a target set by the Paris agreement in 2015.

Just last week it was projected that 2024 will be the first year to breach that global warming limit.

It’s also expected to be the hottest year on record once again.

Greenpeace says even though a climate denialist has been elected to the White House in the form of Donald Trump, world leaders need to act decisively.
