Discussion | Climate costs to run Koeberg for another 20 years

JOHANNESBURG - The announcement that Koeberg Power Station's unit one will be operational for another 20 years has been greatly welcomed.

In a country with ongoing power cuts, the stability could bring much needed security for investors.

The cost has been estimated at around R21-billion but not everyone sees this as good news.

The deployment of nuclear will cost South Africans - and take away from the deployment of renewable energy that can create jobs.

Sikho Luthango, Natural Resource Governance Researcher at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership discussed this with eNCA.
