Discussion | Cellphone downtime | Concern over impact of devices on children

JOHANNESBURG - St Mary’s School in Waverley is a cellphone-free zone during the school day.

Pupils are also not allowed to access their devices during break.

The school says research shows excessive screen time contributes to a myriad of issues.

These include heightened anxiety, disrupted attention spans and reduced face-to-face social skills.

You may also remember, late last year, Australia approved a social media ban for teens under the age of 16.
