JOHANNESBURG - In a world-first, Australia has passed a law banning social media for children under the age of 16.

Tech companies also have to ensure that underage users don't access these services, otherwise they could face hefty fines.

Platforms such as X, Tiktok, Instagram and Snapchat have all been banned.

But is this really the answer to online bullying, peer pressure and sexual predators?
