CAPE TOWN - Only 34 out of the country's 257 municipalities had clean audits in 2022/2023. 

That's a decline from 38 in the previous year. 

Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke released the local government audit outcomes before the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance on Tuesday.

The decline in municipal finance management is concerning as residents continue to be subjected to poor service delivery.
