JOHANNESBURG - The auditor-general’s findings on local government paint a grim picture.

Only 34 of the 257 municipalities in the country have obtained clean audits, showing little to no improvement since the 2021 local government elections.

The findings instead reflect the challenge of turning around municipalities that are grappling with poor management, political instability and incompetence.
