JOHANNESBURG - ArcelorMittal South Africa is forging ahead with the closure of its long-steel business.

It comes after talks with government and stakeholders failed to keep jobs out of the smelter.

Around 3,500 workers are set to lose their jobs.

But, the ripple effect of the shuttering of the Vereeniging and Newcastle plants will go much further.
