JOHANNESBURG - Fourteen municipal by-elections took place in the Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, North West and Western Cape on Wednesday.

They were contested by an independent candidate and 51 candidates from 13 political parties.

The political landscape has shifted since former Deputy President of the Economic Freedom Front, Floyd  Shivambu, left the red berets to join the Mk Party a week ago.
