Crime in SA | Protection mafia hindering business countrywide

JOHANNESBURG - Authorities have declared war against the construction mafia, but now, the so-called 'water tanker mafias' has also entered the fray. 

A collective term of the 'protection mafia' has since been coined. 

Businesses operating across the big cities now have to pay a premium to these gangsters to keep their doors open.

It's understood the secret criminal organisations are often linked to local business forums.
