Copyright Act | Parliament breaks barriers to reading for the blind

JOHANNESBURG - The National Assembly has passed the controversial Copyright Amendment Bill.

It's now in President Cyril Ramaphosa's office waiting for him to find that elusive pen.

Authors say clauses like 'the fair use practice' weaken copyright laws and will harm their income.

But, this relaxation will make reading more accessible to the blind and visually impaired.

It allows books to be translated into audiobooks, braille and large print without consent.

We discuss this with Blind SA's Christo de Klerk.
