JOHANNESBURG - More than 550 girls under the age of 14 gave birth in the Eastern Cape in the most recent financial year.
In South Africa, it is a crime to have sex with a child this young.

The provincial Health Department says 60 instances of statutory rape were reported via the Thuthuzela Care Centers.
According to Health MEC, Nomakhosazana Meth, there's currently no policy to direct stakeholders in handling these circumstances.
