Centre for Development and Enterprise calls for increase in quality of judicial appointments

JOHANNESBURG - While John Hlophe’s appointment to the Judicial Service Commission is being challenged, there are other concerns about the Commission’s past decisions.

Policy think tank, the Centre for Development and Enterprise says the quality of commissioners serving on the JSC needs to be enhanced.

The 23-member Commission advises on matters relating to the judiciary, and interviews and makes recommendations for appointments to the bench.

It’s called for the new Chief Justice, Mandisa Maya to lead the charge and implement reforms to strengthen the judicial system.

The executive director of the Centre for Development and Enterprise, Ann Bernstein discussed this with eNCA.
