Cape Town tightens procurement process to reduce risk of extortion

CAPE TOWN - With over R120-billion planned for infrastructure development, the City of Cape Town says it wants to make it hard for extortionists and criminals targeting its projects. 

City officials want to change the Supply Chain Management Policy to reduce the risk of extortion.

Their proposals include placing any individuals assessed as high risk on the City’s Red List; and revoking awarded contracts.
