CAPE TOWN - As the holiday cheer fades, the Western Cape healthcare system is left picking up the pieces of a festive season marked by a surge in emergency trauma cases.
In December, more than 100,000 people sought emergency care in the province.
Dr Saadiq Kariem from the Western Cape Health Department noted that alcohol is the leading cause of trauma cases.
