CAPE TOWN - Since the start of the taxi strike, there's been an upsurge in crime in the Western Cape, said Police Minister Bheki Cele.
He was giving an update on the strike's impact.
Five people have been killed, including a British citizen.
They were all shot dead.
Cele is appealing to all parties to return to the negotiating table so that a peaceful resolution can be found as soon as possible.
Cele says police remain on high alert and will respond to any eventuality.
