WATCH | Zizi Kodwa resigns as Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture

JOHANNESBURG - Zizi Kodwa has resigned as Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture with immediate effect.

This as he faces charges of corruption amounting to R1.7m.

Kodwa appeared at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge on Wednesday.

He is currently out on R30,000 bail.

Kodwa appeared alongside former EOH boss, Jehan Mackay, whose company allegedly scored R400m in government contracts through his relationship with the former minister.

In its 2017 elective conference, the ANC passed a resolution that office bearers implicated in serious crimes should step down from their positions until cleared by the courts.

This was done to save the ANC's reputation after being publicly accused of tolerating corruption and protecting its members from prosecution.
