JOHANNESBURG - Braamfontein residents are waking up to a city filled with smoke.
It's believed that underground cables caught fire, billowing smoke into the air since early Wednesday morning.
Traffic in both directions of the M1 has been affected.
Robert Mulaudzi from the Johannesburg Emergency Services said the incident was reported in the early hours of the morning.
Firefighters are still trying to extinguish the fire.
No casualties or injuries have been reported.
Meanwhile, City Power has confirmed that Braamfontein, Melville, Vrededorp and surrounding areas have been affected by the fire.
