WATCH | President Ramaphosa signs BELA Bill into law

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill into law.

It aims to improve governance in the education sector.

But critics view it as political interference.

They say school governing bodies and parents should not be undermined.

The DA and other formations are threatening court action should the bill is enacted.

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube boycoted the signing of the BELA Bill. 

The minister said in a statement that she remains opposed to the bill in its current form.
