New nuclear procurement process to be gazetted
JOHANNESBURG - The process that will hopefully see South Africans say goodbye to power cuts, has started.
Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has announced, that 2,500 megawatts of nuclear power will be secured.
Energy regulator NERSA has approved the process, which is now set to be gazetted.
At the same time, energy analyst Chris Yelland says 10 years is a very long time.
Instead, he says the country should have invested in technologies,
that can deliver electricity more quickly and reliably.
