WATCH | NDPP to review decision to withdraw Kodwa charges

JOHANNESBURG - The office of the National Prosecuting Authority is set to review the decision to withdraw corruption charges against Zizi Kodwa and his co-accused.

This follows the decision by the South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, which saw all the charges against the accused dropped.

The former minister and businessman Jehan Mackay, were accused of corruption and violating the Prevention and Combatting of Corruption Act.

This after they allegedly participated in the paying of bribes amounting to over R1.7m.

Charges against them were dropped after representations made by both Kodwa and Mackay but in a statement released on Friday afternoon, the NPA says it received a letter from the Hawks to request the office to review.

The charges against Kodwa allegedly stem from an investigation into a 2015 State Information Technology Agency tender.

Meanwhile, the ANC has welcomed the decision to withdraw corruption charges against Kodwa.

The ANC has lauded Kodwa for stepping aside in June, to allow the court process to unfold.

In a statement, the party also reiterates its support for fair and transparent judicial processes.
