WATCH | IEB class achieves 98.46% pass rate

St Johns achieves 100%

JOHANNESBURG - IEB pupils who sat for 2023's National Senior Certificate exams, have achieved an overall pass rate of 98.46%.

This is a slight improvement from 2022.

The St. John's College is one of those doing exceptionally well, with a 100% pass rate.

Panyaza calls for single exam

Meanwhile, Independent schools are ready to engage government to ensure South Africa's education system is inclusive.

That is according to St. John's College Council Chairperson, Thulani Hlatshwayo.

"Our view is that the IEB is an outstanding programme and it builds on what a number of us knew it to be a JNB," he says.

"It's always been an outstanding programme and we think we shouldn't destroy what works" he adds.

IEB to engage Education Department

This comes after Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi recently took to social media suggesting "one country, one Matric examination".

These suggestions have sparked debate on the future of our education system.

Lesufi says there should be uniformity and equal opportunity to receive quality education regardless of race and class.

The Gauteng Premier also believes inclusive education will decrease the dropout rate.

On Thursday, the Independent Examinations Board said it's all about how the standards are set.
