JOHANNESBURG - Foodborne illnesses have been classified as a national disaster, however, they have not yet been declared a national disaster.
That's according to Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa.
He briefed the media on Thursday, outlining the government's plan to curb the scourge of foodborne illnesses.
More than 20 children have been killed by chemical poisoning found in food.
Hlabisa says the government is monitoring developments and will take necessary action in due course.
