WATCH | 'Deepfakes' increasingly being used to influence voters

JOHANNESBURG - The 2016 US election has been cited as a cautionary tale for any country that goes to the polls.

Numerous of fake stories were circulated during campaigning which some believe influenced the outcome. 

As South Africa prepares for what's considered a landmark election, the IEC says it's ready to combat disinformation and 'deepfakes'.

Media Monitoring Africa is also playing a role by launching the 411, a whistleblower tool to combat misinformation.
