UPDATE | Man arrested for allegedly killing five family members

JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly stabbing seven family members in Bergville.

Five of them have died, and two are recovering from injuries.

The incident occurred in the Bethany area in Bergville on Saturday night.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect stabbed his mother who ran out of the house.

The uncle was then stabbed and died at the scene.

Two children, aged two and six-years-old, were also killed by the suspect.

An elderly woman living with a disability and another elderly woman were also killed.

A four-year-old girl survived with multiple stab wounds, and the man's sister escaped with a 1-year-old child.

According to police the perpetrator had several domestic-violence related cases opened against him.
