STILFONTEIN - The body of a second illegal miner was retrieved from the Stilfontein mine shaft.
It has been reported that the zama zamas who remain holed up underground are demanding food and supplies be sent down in exchange for bodies to be brought to the surface.
SAFTU urges the government to speed up efforts to rescue zama-zamas in Stilfontein.
Some illegal miners are said to be facing poor conditions in the abandoned mine shafts.
It says it is the government's responsibility to rescue the miners and subject them to the full might of the law.
