Soweto child deaths | Probe into deaths from alleged food poisoning

JOHANNESBURG - Police are probing the deaths of five Soweto school children.

Three of them are from Karabo Primary School and another from Khauhelo Primary School.

They died after eating allegedly poisoned food.

Cases of suspected food poisoning have been recorded in the same area previously.

Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said they have been in discussions with the Health Department.

"We need to make sure that the learners understand when they interact in spaza shops or with vendors on how we avert things like this."
