Snow in South Africa | Two people have died from hypothermia

DURBAN - At least two people have died from hypothermia, after being trapped in the snow on the N3 in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Premier, Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa made the announcement at a briefing on Sunday afternoon.

Madlopha-Mthethwa, gave an update on interventions to deal with the current severe weather impacting the province.

She also outlined emergency measures, coordination efforts with rescue teams and steps being taken to ensure the safety of residents and road users.  

Madllopha-Mthethwa says while many others remain trapped, many others have been rescued.

It's been an unprecedented weekend of bad weather in KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State.

Heavy snowfall brought travel between the two provinces to a halt, with travellers unable to continue to their destinations.
