SANDF on standby for deployment on voting day

PRETORIA - Five provinces have been identified as potential hotspots for unrest during elections.

Concerns have been raised around potential violence and volatility but police say they are prepared for any eventuality.

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure says police will enforce a zero-tolerance approach to lawlessness during elections on 29 May.

The South African National Defence Force will also be on standby should the need arise.
