JOHANNESBURG - The South African Defence Force has recalled 8 soldiers deployed to the DRC.
This follows allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse and serious acts of ill-discipline and misconduct.
The soldiers were apprehended by UN Military Police in Beni in the northeast of the country.
They will now return to answer to the allegations.
The SANDF has also deployed its own investigators to the area to conduct a formal inquiry.
At the same time, the military is blasting the UN for not following proper procedures.
It says the matter was not reported to the RSA Defence Advisor nor SA's UN representative.
The SANDF says it learned of the incident through media reports.
