Richards Bay runaway fire contained, windy conditions still pose threat

RICHARDS BAY - A runaway fire in Richards Bay has been contained.

The blaze began at a wood chip factory in the area on Saturday.

Ward Councillor Henning de Wet says residents helped to control the fire.

Despite this, authorities say that windy conditions pose a challenge as they may fan the flames.

Preliminary investigations show that the fire got worse when it spread to the conveyor belt system.
