JOHANNESBURG - By most accounts, it's been a bright start to this year's matric exams.
While Grade 12 pupils cannot avoid power cuts altogether, some contingency measures have been put in place by the education department at provincial level.
Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is hopeful that the sunshine period of reduced blackouts will continue.
He says ensuring adequate power supply at schools where matrics are writing exams is a provincial function.
At national level, Ramokgopa says exempting all high schools would present a logistical nightmare.
For many matrics, the first lot of finals were much easier than the prelims in September.
Overall, with power cuts a mainstay of South African life, pupils have found ways to make the best of a year that has been the worst in terms of blackouts.
