JOHANNESBURG - The Council For Scientific and Industrial Research says it will take at least five to ten years to stabilise the electricity grid.
Eskom is currently burning the midnight diesel to keep us in the lower stages of power cuts but poor performance by the generation fleet and maintenance problems mean that may not last.

The CSIR's Monique LeRoux says it will take some time for renewable projects to come online.
"It is something that we have spoken about before and it really is a big concern for us and we have stated publicly that we need a lot of investment in the grid if you really want to bring those big solar and wind farm projects online that the country desperately needs," she said.
