Ramaphosa promises to uphold the Constitution

PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially been sworn in as South Africa’s president.

Chief Justice Raymond Zondo administered the oath of office to Ramaphosa at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

Ramaphosa promised to uphold the country's Constitution.

The president also committed to building a more equal and caring society.

He says the elections tested the resilience of the country's democracy.

Ramaphosa committed himself to working with all parties and sectors that are willing to find solutions to the country's challenges.

He says the people of South Africa's demands have been heard.

Ramaphosa said, "The people have demanded an end to the theft of public funds and the capture of the state, above all, the people of South Africa have stressed that they are impatient with political bickering and the endless blame-game amongst politicians and political parties, they want us to put their needs and aspirations first and they want us to work together for the sake of the country".

"I will work with everyone. I will reach out and work with every political party and sector that is willing to contribute to finding solutions to the challenges our country faces as we transition to a new decade of freedom".
