JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his congratulations to Donald Trump, who has been elected as the new United States President-Elect.
Trump claimed victory with 277 electoral votes, while his opponent, Kamala Harris, trailed with 224.
In a tweet he posted on X, Ramaphosa expressed his eagerness to build on the partnership between South Africa and the US.
“I look forward to continuing the close and mutually beneficial partnership between our two nations across all domains of our cooperation."
"On the global stage, we anticipate a productive G20 Presidency in 2025, with the US set to succeed us in 2026," he said.

Ramaphosa’s congratulations followed a wave of other messages from leaders across the world.
Among those were Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Modi shared India's commitment to peace and prosperity.
He said, “Heartiest congratulations, my friend Donald Trump, on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership.”

More reactions also came from China and Russia who focused on peace and mutual respect.
According to AFP, Moscow’s Foreign Ministry announced that it would work with the new US administration while maintaining its "unchanged" conditions for ending the Ukraine conflict.
Meanwhile in China according to the AFP Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning voiced her hopes for "peaceful coexistence,"
“We will continue to approach and handle China-US relations based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation," she said in the article.
