JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has found his pen, and he's wasting no time using it. He signed two bills into law today.
They are the the National Council on GBV and Femicide Bill and the NPA Amendment Bill.
Women, Youth and People with Disabilities Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says that the implementation of these bill is long overdue.
"Today marks a historic milestone in the nations relentless pursuit of justice and equality as we gather here for the signing of The National Council of Gender Based Violence and Fermicide Bill into law. We honour the unwavering involvement of all those who have tirelessly worked to bring us to this moment," said Dlamini-Zuma.
Dlamini-Zuma said the bill was first introduced in Parliament in 2022.
"The journey to this point has required collaboration from government civil society organisation, private sector other social partners and most importantly the survivors of GBV.Their voices have guided our policies inspiring us to strive where justice prevails and the circle of violence is shuttered".
