R46bn maintenance backlog crippling City Power's infrastructure

JOHANNESBURG - City Power is working on resolving outstanding faults and restoring electricity in different areas across Joburg.

The electricity supplier says it facing infrastructure challenges, some substations are operating and running well over their expected lifespan. They have not been serviced or repaired in decades.

Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says close to 50-billion rand is needed immediately for maintenance and upgrades.

Mangena says they are doing their best to fix outages following major storms and flooding that affected different parts of Joburg.

He says they have resolved about 2000 reported faults so far.
