Police wary of firearms influx into Eastern Cape

KOMANI, Eastern Cape - The Eastern Cape has had one of its darkest years yet when it comes to violent crime.

Shootings occur regularly in the province, with the latest casualty being a 49-year-old woman who was kidnapped by three men at her home in Dimbaza - and was later shot and killed.

In response, authorities say they will spend this festive season doing their best to ensure that no firearms make it into the province.
Provincial police commissioner Nomthetheleli Mene says one way of doing this is by thoroughly inspecting all vehicles entering the Eastern Cape.
