STILFONTEIN - Operation at the Stilfontein mine in North West are to continue until police are satisfied.
Police spokeswoman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed this on Wednesday as officials entered day four of the rescue operation.
According to Mathe, two volunteers assisting in the operation have gone underground confirming that there are no longer any illegal miners.
But to ensure that they do due diligence, she said police are conducting the final sweep to ensure there are no remaining zama zamas underground.

A total of 246 illegal miners have resurfaced and 78 bodies have been retrieved in Stilfontein since the start of the rescue operation on Monday.
