Operation Shanela sweeps through Soshanguve

JOHANNESBURG - Police are out in force in Soshanguve on Saturday evening, as part of Operation Shanela.

Police also, announced on Saturday, have seized over R30-milion in counterfeit goods.

The SAPS National Counterfeit Unit led an operation in the Johannesburg CBD that resulted in the seizure of counterfeit goods worth over R9-million.

The operation included members from SARS, Gauteng Traffic, Brand Protectors, Crime Prevention Wardens and private security companies.

During the operation, the team seized over 11,000 counterfeit items including clothing, shoes and handbags.

This is the third operation in Gauteng in the last four weeks.

The team also seized over R8-million worth of counterfeit goods during a similar operation in Rustenburg, in the North West last week.

This brings the total value of counterfeit goods seized over the past four weeks to over R30-million.
