Omotoso rape trial | Justice Minister demands answers

JOHANNESBURG - Justice and Constitutional Development Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi, is taking prosecutors to task for their handling of the Timothy Omotoso rape case.

Kubayi says she has written to National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Adv Shamila Batohi, evoking section 33 (2A) of the NPA Act.

"You would understand that this has been a case that has dragged for almost eight years, with victims that have gone all out to give testimony in court, watching a young women cry in court after the verdict was heartbreaking," she says.

Kubayi says the judge was scathing in his verdict against the NPA.

She has given the NDPPA until Monday, 7 April 2025, to give her a report on this matter.

The Nigerian televangelist, and his co-accused, Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho, were found not guilty on all charges.

They were tried for rape, sexual assault, racketeering and human trafficking.
