JOHANNESBURG - The State wants a new trial for Gupta associates and senior Free State government officials.
They were previously found not guilty of fraud and money laundering charges.
But the Independent Directorate Against Corruption sees it differently.
It argues the trial court misapplied the law in the case, that involves the awarding of a 25 million rand contract, by the Free State Agriculture Department in 2012.

Respondents Peter Thabethe, Limakatso Moorosi and Seipati Dlhamini, were senior officials in the provincial Agriculture and Land Reform Departments.
Other respondents were Gupta associates Iqbal Sharma, who owned Nulane Investment, employee Dinesh Patel, as well as Ronica Ragavan, director of a company previously owned by the Gupta brothers.
All were found not guilty by a high court in 2023.
