'NHI comprehensive package of services to be more evident middle of 2026' - Joe Phaahla

PRETORIA - An important piece of legislation was signed into law on Wednesday.

President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the National Health Insurance Bill into law. The legislation paves the way for universal healthcare.

The NHI Bill outlines a system aimed at ensuring that every South African will have right to healthcare free of charge at any accredited facility.

It will be funded by taxpayers.

What remains contentious is that private healthcare providers will be brought into the system and obliged to offer healthcare at price points determined by government.

Health Minister, Joe Phaahla had a discussion with the eNCAto explain more on this act.
