Newly qualified teachers battling to find jobs

JOHANNESBURG - Government has admitted that the placement of graduate teachers in South Africa is not reaching desired targets.

The Basic Education Department awarded nearly 12,000 bursaries to trainee teachers between April 2022 and March 2023.

But its annual report says that on average only 76-percent of those received placements.

We spoke to Basic Education Department spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga.
