New Year's celebrations | Johannesburg law enforcement on alert

JOHANNESBURG - New Year's eve celebrations in Johannesburg are becoming more monitored as authorities increase their presence on the streets.

In a bid to ensure a safe transition into 2025, the South African Police Service has announced a temporary ban on alcohol sales in the Johannesburg CBD.

From 6PM on Tuesday night, all liquor outlets and entertainment venues were instructed to close their doors to prevent alcohol-related incidents.

The City of Johannesburg supports this measure, citing past experiences where alcohol has contributed to safety issues during the festive season.

Police and municipal officers will be deployed throughout the area to enforce the ban and ensure compliance.

eNCA reporter Heidi Giokos spoke with SAPS officers conducting the operation.
