Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu will now be working alongside Sipho Ramosepele and has asked for time to consult his clients.

He's also asked for the two police officers who testified last week to be recalled to the stand.

The trial within a trial resumed on Monday, with the lawyer for accused 1 and 2 asking for more time to consult, while also requesting that previous witnesses be recalled to the stand.

Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng said, "the court is amenable to the application for postponement for the instruction of Advocate Mngomezulu in respect of accused number 1 and number 2."

"Our constitution allows a litigant at any stage of the proceedings to augment, change or fire a legal representative. So, the application regarding instructions for advocate Mngomezulu are acceded to."

Last week, retired police colonel, Mhlanganyelwa Mbotho, told the court how accused 1, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, confessed to the killing.

But the defence argues Sibiya was tortured into confessing and want the confession ruled inadmissible.

The trial within a trial continues on Tuesday with another police officer expected on the stand.
