SKUKUZA, MPUMALANGA - Sixty four park rangers died worldwide while on duty in the past year with two of them being South African.
These numbers were released by South African National Parks while commemorating World Ranger Day on the 31st of July.
Sanparks says as long as wildlife crime remains high, rangers' lives will remain at risk while on duty.
Officials will be increasing security in order to better protect rangers and help preserve the country's natural heritage.
eNCA’s Theodor Mashele filed this report.
