Lamola: SA to comply with US expulsion of Ebrahim Rasool

PRETORIA - International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola says the correct diplomatic processes regarding Ebrahim Rasool's expulsion were not followed.

South Africa's Ambassador to the United States was declared persona non grata by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio following his comments on President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.

Lamola says government will comply with the decision and continue to engage with the US.

Rubio lambasted Rasool for comments made during a webinar.

Rasool was part of a panel discussing foreign policy hosted by the Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection.

He made comments on US foreign policy and the Make America Great Again movement.

Rubio slammed him as a 'race-baiting politician' who is no longer welcome in the country.
