KZN Commissioner to probe alleged police misconduct

DURBAN - KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has ordered a probe into alleged unprofessional conduct.

Officers were caught on CCTV assaulting a person during an operation in oThongati on Friday night.

In the video, an officer can be seen hitting a man with an open hand in what appears to be an unprovoked act.

Later in the footage, several other officers can be seen ganging up on the same victim and attacking him.

Mkhwanazi wants a detailed report on what led to the incident.

He says steps will be taken against the members if they have contravened their code of conduct.

Mkhwanazi has reminded police officers they are not above the law.
