Komati is a pilot project: Creecy

JOHANNESBURG - Forestry, Fisheries, and Environmental Affairs Minister, Barbara Creecy says the project to turn the former coal power station, Komati into a renewable energy one, will guide similar projects in the future.

Creecy says government wants to make sure they are not leaving vulnerable communities behind in the transition process.

"We want to make sure that as we move forward at a pace that our country can afford with our climate transition that we are doing so in a way that leaves nobody behind, that we are creating new jobs, that we putting new power onto our grid," she said.

Creecy says most countries are off target in terms of meeting climate objectives.
She further says South Africa finds itself stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of achieving sustainable development goals while meeting climate resilience goals.
